The Atlantida apartments could not have a better location for those guests who wish to have a “car-rental-free” holiday. That is, guests who prefer to walk around the centre of Funchal or use the very good bus and taxi services nearby to get around.

Being this close to the centre - or rather, being right at the centre - means that you are a step away from all the main facilities and activities of downtown Funchal. This is where Madeirans live and work. It is not part of the hotel district in the Lido.

As an area that serves mostly the locals it will have many small snack bars, loads of shopping, restaurants, museums and other cultural activities nearby. The marina is metres away. So are all the bus terminals that travel all over the island. No need to hire a car if you stay here! Taxis and tour busses are also close by.

The area is dotted with many museums, wine shops, the world famous Madeira Wine Company cellars, the Vicente Fotografias museum, the very special “Santa Clara” convent, the Museum of Natural History and the “Quinta das Cruzes” museum.

Moreover, if you are coming to Madeira on official or business purposes then you will be glad to know that most of the important government offices are also close by - passport, tax, social security, and other governmentally controlled departments, for example.

The area nearby is also blessed with some magnificent gardens. The closest is the “Jardim Municipal” - a mere twenty metres away. A further 100 metres away lies the “Santa Catarina” park with its impressive views over the harbour and Funchal.
