Fresh, cheerful apartments in walking distance to the old zone of Funchal

The Good Hope Apartments, known as “Quinta Boa Esperança” in Portuguese, are recently renovated and refurbished self-catering studio apartments on a property that has been home to many a tourist for decades.

The most important feature of this property is its excellent location relative to the centre of Funchal. It is located in a relatively quiet residential area with easy access to the centre by foot or by bus. The “Zona Velha” or old zone of Funchal with its bounty of high quality restaurants and the famous “Praia da Barreirinha” beach is just a stone’s throw away.

The property includes ample gardens with lots of fruit trees, local plants, bananas and wine plantations. A brand new swimming pool is also available and can be used all year round as the altitude of the property relative to sea level means it enjoys relatively mild and warm temperatures throughout the year. There is also a portable barbecue grill available for all guests to use.

There is a large common terrace located upstairs with a lounge, where you can enjoy a superb view over the sea and Funchal Harbour. You can use the terrace area any time of the day or night and it is accessed by a spiral staircase. There is also a common utility room with washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board should you need to use these facilities.

Very close to the Apartments we have the famous bakery ‘Mariazinha’, with wonderful bread, cakes and coffee and right next to it there is a small supermarket where you can find all the basic items you may need during your stay too.

Having only four Apartments on the property, these fully-equipped Apartments provide privacy and are truly a “home away from home”. There is also free unlimited WiFi available for all guests to use free of charge.

    A perfect haven

    Situated in the heart of the old town, Quinta Esperança is a beautiful property situated in serene and private grounds. Guests are given the run of the property; passion fruits, grapes and other fruits grow in the gardens, which guests can help themselves to. The pool is perfect for cooling off and sun loungers provide the ideal excuse for a spot of sunbathing either by the pool or overlooking the sea. If sunbathing isn’t your thing, the balcony provides a lovely haven in which to escape the heat of the sun and enjoy the spectacular views across Funchal. Later on you can enjoy a barbeque outside your apartment whilst watching the Porto Santo ferry come in to port. The location of the Quinta is ideal; it is less than a 10 min walk away from a great bakery, local convenience stores and bars, the bus to and from town stops right outside the Quinta’s gates and it is also an easy walkable distance from town. Helena and Roberto are the epitome of accommodating, but discrete hosts. They have done everything possible to pre-empt the needs of their guests, but if you should find anything lacking you only need tell them and they’ll do their best to set it right. You really get the feeling that you’re being looked after and that your holiday is of the utmost importance to them. I wish we could have stayed longer and very much hope to go back soon.

    Best holidays we have!

    The Quinta and the orchid apartment are so great and wonderful. What a fantastic view on Funchal we really can’t grow tired….
    Thanks a lot Helena and Roberto for your kindness, hospitality and help.
    A non touristic place where it ‘s so good to live. Hope to come back soon.

    The Good Hope apartments is probably the most tranquiel place I have ever visited. We loved the gardens, the birds, the views.. ...
    Funchal is very fortunate that this wonderful place came into the hands
    of people with such respect for tradition and aesthetic considerations, rather than purely making money.
    We look forward to returning, to see how you progress in taking this lovely place back to its former glory.
    Many times I have set on the terrace and wondered what poets, artists, musicians, etc, of the past came and went.
    The list would probably be more interesting than in Reids.

      WE HAD TO RETURN!!!

      As you can see, we loved it so much in May, we had to return!!! Words cannot express how we feel about this wonderful little “paradise”. Where do we begin? The apartment “Jasmine” is a little gem, cozy and homely, with a lovely terrace for Al Fresco meals, but we also stayed a few days in “Orchid” and “WOW”...the views are breathtaking.The transformation of this apartment since May,was magnificent well done by Helena and Roberto. The whole ambience at Quinta Esperanca is one of tranquility and relaxation.It was great to see the old pictures of how the Quinta used to be and can only imagine the many different guests who have stayed here. We spend many evenings on the upstairs terrace with a bottle of wine looking over Funchal town and the harbour. JUST FABOULOUS VIEWS!!! The pool is so inviting, always a sunbed! Lovely touches, like the swinging hammock, are great. You can always find a quiet shady corner to relax. BUT, the most important part of this wonderful place, are the fantastic hosts. Helena and Roberto, you are so welcoming, friendly and thoughful…!!! Your hard work is certainly evident and we feel it such a priviledge to stay in your lovely house. Cannot wait to return….again !!! THANK YOU for a lovely holiday…again!!! Love, Julie and Berry xxxx
